IS THIS SORRY AND CANDYLAND?  DO WE REALLY WANT THAT?
The game has changed since today's parents were kids.  A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle points out that "The range and quality of board games out there today far surpass anything we may have grown up with as kids, and in spite of all the competing allures of online gaming, there is still something elementally satisfying about the roll of the dice and the click-clack of little wooden counters."

A Stratagemics camp will expose your child to any number of the best games that are out there today, way beyond what we grew up with.  Many of our families love these newer games for their own game nights.
HOW ARE THESE GAMES A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE?

Strategy gaming is a great workout for the brain in many ways.  Parenting:  School Years Magazine put it this way:  "Many popular strategy games .. involve counting and subtracting, and working with money, as well as making predictions, seeing patterns, following rules and using logic."

Stratagemics Camps takes it further.  The skills highlighted in the magazine are the basic tools, but in our camps we offer the chance to fine tune these tools into sharp strategies.  Every card is analyzed, every move is questioned -- we look at Yugioh and Settlers the way a Master looks at a game of chess.   Approaching a game this way is a skill that can be applied to any new situation or problem, to any unknown in life.

BUT THE BENEFITS AREN'T JUST FOR THE BRAIN

No less a figure than Ben Franklin wrote that by playing games (writing of chess specifically), one can learn:

Foresight ... which considers the consequences that attend an action;

Circumspection ... which surveys the whole scene of action, the possibilities ... the probabilities ... the consequences ...

Caution .... not to move too hastily ...

and lastly ... the habit of not being discouraged by present bad appearances in the state of our affairs, the habit of hoping for a favourable chance, and that of persevering in the search of resources.

What better benefits could we want for our children, ourselves, and what better environment in which to learn them?
