WHAT IS STRATAGEMICS AND WHO IS INVOLVED?
Stratagemics was formed in the spring of 2006 in order to provide an opportunity for students to develop critical thinking skills in fun and exciting contexts, thereby offering preparation for life.  Currently offering Strategy Gaming and Advanced Magic camps, as well as monthly game nights, we focus on putting cutting edge research into teaching practice for boys and girls who love to meet challenging ideas in fun and exciting places.  Stratagemics has offered Chess and Math/Science camps in previous years, and may do so in the future.  The idea for the camps came from a Strategy Gaming Club once held at Park Road Montessori School, and from free time activities between instructional sessions at National Master Matt Noble's  Charlotte Chess Academy camps.
WHO LEADS THE CAMPS?  WHAT IS HIS BACKGROUND?

Stratagemics is led by Curt Frueh, a National Board and North Carolina Certified Teacher (grades 1-6) with over twenty-five years experience working with children and youth, 18 of those being in Montessori upper elementary classrooms.  He is a Yale graduate with advanced certification in Math instruction from UNCC, and a Master’s Degree, with Red Cross training in First Aid and CPR.

Mr. Frueh has been an instructor with the very popular Charlotte Chess Academy for sixteen years, and for three years worked with the UNCC/Providence Day School summer Math CAMMP program, primarily as a technology instructor.  His chess club at Amay James/Park Road Montessori has won many tournaments including three state titles.

Mr. Frueh is married with two children.

DOES HE PLAY OR JUST DIRECT?

As a competitor, Mr. Frueh has placed first or second in sanctioned chess, backgammon, Yugioh, Magic  and Mage Knight tournaments, and has a record of competitive success in Mah Jong, Settlers, Star Wars and a variety of other games.  Many, many years ago he established state and school swimming  records in high school and at Yale, and qualified for the All-American team.
